Today we left Kokkola and arrived in Jacobstad- not too far away. We are all staying with host families and are enjoying our stay very much. In the morning we went to Baltic Yacht- a yacht making company that makes very specialized yachts, some of them worth 40 million euros!
After that we visited a beatuiful high school that has three components- one built almost 100 years ago, one built in 1959 and one built in 2009. It was amazing to see how all three were combined and renovated into one building.
After lunch, Christina spent a few hours at the high school, Laurel at a poilce station, Catherine at a fur design education school, Gailmarie at a musuem, and Marty at a manufacturing company (he was definitely in his element!)
Prior to supper we visited the local market, and spent some time getting to know our host families. We were placed really well and have a lot in common with the families we were put with.
In the evening we had a guided tour of Jacobstad by two students studying tourism in English, and a very classy meal.
Finnish food involves a fair bit of seafood, and they know how to cook it well. The traditional Finnish food is a pastry with rice and cheese with eagg butter on top. Hard to explain, but it's great!
